"Some people won't dance if they don't know who's singing. The story captured your mind and it made it all good, just like a good mix. And it didn't make a blind but of difference. Did they use a typewriter and dictionary, or a word processor and a stellar knack at spelling, or Word on a PC, or Pages on a Mac? You can't tell, can you. Think of your favorite books written recently, the stories, the authors.

VIRTUAL DJ HOME EDITION REVIEW UPGRADE

I did upgrade to version 8 but it seemed stripped down compared to version 7, so I'm back to using 7 again.Īs for the snob factor: I've never understood that at all. It may seem like a weird way to mix, but I use that with my eyes in the same way most DJs use audio from the headphones. I use it and I like it for the time bar function that allows me to mix visually. Serato & Traktor have to potential to make your shows sound so much better but they also require you to keep your skills on point.

So in a nutshell, VDJ is great for beginners, but the software does so much for you that it's easy to get lazy and forget how to mix without it. Serato Video is way clunkier by comparison and I feel like I have to constantly babysit it or it'll do something I didn't want it to do. All you have to do is focus on your mixing. It'll do all the transitions for you and can even automatically switch to a visualizer when you're playing a tune with no video.

Once you've set it up you can forget it's there and it will do its thing flawlessly. One thing I do miss from VDJ is how it handled video mixing. It's hard to explain but once you've made the switch after years of VDJ you'll understand perfectly. Serato has a much more "purist" feel to it. It was just too easy to let auto-gain and Sync do their thing in VDJ. And the noob-friendly interface made me feel like I was cheating. The thing that made me switch was the poor turntable support as well as the crappy pre-fader effects. Personally I've used it for about five years before moving on to Serato DJ. It's decent software that gets the job done, but once you finally upgrade to pro-grade gear you'll find yourself being limited by what VDJ can do.
